“They looked to recruit students, academics, politicians, business people, researchers, law enforcement officials and public servants at all levels of government, while using false, anglicised personae to approach their targets.
“Some of the names they adopt include Sophy, Amy, Ben and Eric, but the team can and does use others,” Burgess said. “The spies pose as consultants, head-hunters, local government officials, academics and think tank researchers, claiming to be from fictional companies such as Data 31″ – Mike Burgess ASIO – Director-General of Security
Well that’s something only people in the spy game and espionage researchers could possibly have known.
When this duplicitous tactic by foreign spies was revealed, you could have knocked me down with a feather. Fake names? The cunning bastards!
I mean, it’s hard enough to keep of track of foreign spies (who probably lie about their reasons for visiting Australia) without this added level of deception.
Frankly, I don’t know how our boys and girls in ASIO do it.
“Sophy, Amy, Ben and Eric” – Remember those names!
Big thanks to Mike for trusting the public with this insider information. Even now – foreign looking people going by those names, (whilst revelling in their “false, anglicised personae”) – are being viewed with suspicion.
China revealed as “A Team”
It seems China is the foreign power (Mike dubbed the “A Team”) that turned a former MP into a traitor. For reasons of National Security their name and gender is still unknown. China could reveal who they are, but if they cross ASIO and publicise the traitorous former MP’s name, they know we’ll stop shipping iron ore, cattle and grain to China.
Americans are as weird about China as we are – Like Mike says, everyone spies on everyone
ASIO crackdown on Zionists
It seems ASIO aren’t putting up with any rubbish from Israel either, as Mike talks about, “…the Australians who have been tracked, harassed and intimidated for daring to criticise a foreign regime.”
You can sense he’s furious at the way a petrol bomb attack was dismissed as a hate crime – so early in an investigation that was half-hearted at best. It’s doubtful Mike will put up with much more of this horrendous pro-Israel bias.1
I don’t believe ASIO have forgiven Israel for the fake passport scandal either. Nor would they be happy about a Jewish lobby group’s links to the far right. Especially after Pezzullo’s enormous misdirection that kept white supremacists off their radar.
As someone who was recently accused of being a Turkish Muslim posing as a Torah Jew,2 for criticising Israel’s genocidal response to Hamas, it’s a relief to know ASIO has my back.
Notes
1 The petrol bombers and bomb maker have been caught. While police continue to state the Burgertory bombing was not a hate crime, their credibility remains shot due to their earlier dismissals before an investigation had even got under way. As well, the Burgertory accused took orders from ‘somebody above’, so we’d need to know their motivation for ordering the attack.
Pretty clear the bomb threat against a man flying the Palestinian flag was a politically motivated crime. Not as much fuss about this, as the supposed “antisemitic slurs” that fill our MSM. We know all hell would have broken loose, if this had been directed at a Jewish person. Michael West tweeted about this and the commentary backs this belief.
2 I’m an atheist and consider myself a “planetary patriot”. Given this racist country is run by an alleged war criminal and is cheerfully abetting a genocide, I’m not too keen to be identified as Australian.
