He will not face the possibility of criminal charges, be reprimanded or need to defend his questionable behaviour \u2013&nbsp;or that of his Department \u2013&nbsp;in any way whatsoever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: Merienda One; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>LOW-LEVEL&nbsp;FRAUD<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">Despite <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/independentaustralia.net\/politics\/politics-display\/angus-taylor-and-the-coalition-protection-racket,13358\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">his alleged lying and cheating<\/a><\/span> to discredit Sydney Lord Mayor <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/meetings.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au\/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=118\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clover Moore<\/a><\/span>, there will be no consequences for Angus, since he will not even be investigated by the Australian Federal Police (<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.afp.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AFP<\/a><\/span>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">Some have been quick to accuse the AFP of political bias after its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/2020\/feb\/06\/angus-taylor-afp-drops-investigation-into-doctored-documents-scandal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">decision not to pursue Taylor<\/span><\/a> over the Sydney City Council forgeries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">Because of this, many appear to have decided the AFP is a politically compromised outfit \u2014 one that operates primarily to pursue the political agenda of the government of the day.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cFor non-Rhodes scholars, like myself, these actions are usually better known as lying and cheating.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AusPol?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#AusPol<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AngusGate?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#AngusGate<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Angus Taylor and the Coalition protection racket <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pECfDmljpb\">https:\/\/t.co\/pECfDmljpb<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/independentaus?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@IndependentAus<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; AusSeaSteph (@AusSeaSteph) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AusSeaSteph\/status\/1200166465699139584?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 28, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<div class=\"EmbeddedTweet-tweet\">\n<blockquote class=\"Tweet h-entry js-tweetIdInfo subject expanded\" cite=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AusSeaSteph\/status\/1200166465699139584\" data-tweet-id=\"1200166465699139584\" data-scribe=\"section:subject\">\n<div class=\"Tweet-header\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">The truth, however, is much worse. In the opinion of Independent <em>A<\/em>ustralia, the AFP has been a politically compromised operation since its inception in 1978. And as for supporting the government of the day, there is ample evidence it mostly sides with the conservative side of Federal politics, even on the rare occasions the reactionaries may be in opposition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">Now, this might seem to be rather a big call, but the evidence is huge and growing and appears&nbsp;to us&nbsp;to be insurmountable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">First, let\u2019s just look at the evidence of recent years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: Merienda One; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>HIGH-LEVEL DAY TRIP<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">The most obvious rebuttal of the notion the AFP is even-handed and does not favour one side of politics or the other comes during the Prime Ministership of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naa.gov.au\/search?search_api_fulltext=gillard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Julia Gillard<\/span><\/a>, from 2010 to 2013. At huge expense, Gillard\u2019s controversial speaker, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aph.gov.au\/Senators_and_Members\/Parliamentarian?MPID=0V5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Peter Slipper<\/a><\/span>, was <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peter_Slipper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">prosecuted by the AFP in 2014<\/span><\/a> over a day trip to a few Canberra wineries costing the taxpayer the princely sum of $949.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">The investigation and prosecution cost tens of millions of dollars, only to be almost immediately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/2015\/feb\/26\/peter-slipper-wins-appeal-against-conviction-for-misusing-taxi-vouchers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">overturned<\/span><\/a> on appeal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">His accuser, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/James_Ashby\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">James Ashby,<\/a><\/span> who at the request of the Liberal Party and the Murdoch press, stole Slipper\u2019s personal diary in order to frame him, was subject to a lazy three-year \u201cinvestigation\u201d by the AFP before they announced they weren\u2019t really interested. (You can read all about this scandal in the <em>Ashbygate <\/em><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/independentaustralia.net\/ashbygate-book\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">book<\/a><\/span> by <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/independentaustralia.net\/profile-on\/ross-jones,138\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ross Jones<\/a><\/span>, and through I<em>A<\/em>\u2019s extensive <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/independentaustralia.net\/site-search?q=ashbygate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coverage<\/a><\/span> of the Ashbygate affair.}<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">Moving forward into the bleak Coalition years since 2013, the bias of the AFP has become even more starkly apparent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">It is perhaps no coincidence former PM <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aph.gov.au\/Senators_and_Members\/Parliamentarian?MPID=EZ5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tony Abbott<\/a><\/span> bunked down <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2013-09-15\/tony-abbott-to-live-at-afp-training-college-as-lodge-renovated\/4958690\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">in the AFP\u2019s Canberra barracks<\/span><\/a>, while the Lodge was being renovated, during his first mad year in office. The fact that former AFP Commissioner <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andrew_Colvin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Andrew Colvin<\/span><\/a> and controversial Abbott and Morrison minister <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aph.gov.au\/Senators_and_Members\/Parliamentarian?MPID=HWT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stuart Robert<\/a><\/span> were not only classmates at school, but were also in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defence.gov.au\/ADFA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Australian Defence Force Academy<\/span><\/a> at exactly the same time, may also be relevant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">One we prepared earlier: &#39;How Howard politicised the AFP and protected Downer and Bolt&#39; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FK1kLFQtHx\">https:\/\/t.co\/FK1kLFQtHx<\/a> @rpzjones <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/independentaus?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@independentaus<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Dave Donovan (@davrosz) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davrosz\/status\/733435952626950144?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 19, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<div class=\"EmbeddedTweet-tweet\">\n<blockquote class=\"Tweet h-entry js-tweetIdInfo subject expanded\" cite=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AusSeaSteph\/status\/1200166465699139584\" data-tweet-id=\"1200166465699139584\" data-scribe=\"section:subject\">\n<div class=\"Tweet-header\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: Merienda One; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>WHEN IS A CRIME A CRIME?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">In terms of whistleblowers, the AFP has been eager to tromp their jackboots into the offices of the Labor Party, even in Parliament House, over alleged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/2016\/may\/19\/australian-federal-police-raid-labor-party-offices-in-melbourne\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Labor leaks about the NBN<\/span><\/a>. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2017-10-25\/what-is-the-awu-accused-of\/9083000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Into the offices<\/a><\/span> of the Australian Workers Union (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.awu.net.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AWU<\/a>), after alerting the media, over a politically motivated attack on Bill Shorten by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aph.gov.au\/Senators_and_Members\/Parliamentarian?MPID=I0M\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Michaelia Cash<\/span><\/a>. Into the <a href=\"https:\/\/independentaustralia.net\/politics\/politics-display\/afp-raids-journalists-we-need-to-talk-about-our-government,12803\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">offices of the ABC<\/span><\/a> over Afghanistan war leaks. Even <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2019-11-12\/lawyers-for-annika-smethurst-call-for-afp-to-delete-documents\/11694210\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">into the home<\/a><\/span> of journalist <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Annika_Smethurst\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Annika Smethurst<\/a><\/span>, over plans to even further increase the powers of Australia\u2019s spy agencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">On the other hand, the <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/politics\/federal\/cash-cleared-of-wrongdoing-but-judge-rules-awu-raids-were-invalid-20191011-p52zqz.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AFP refused to execute<\/a><\/span> any raids on the offices of Michaelia Cash over the leaking from her office of the AFP raids on the AWU or pursue any charges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/thenewdaily.com.au\/news\/national\/2019\/06\/08\/medevac-leak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nor did they raid Peter Dutton\u2019s office<\/a> <\/span>despite leaks that clearly came from it over the Medevac Bill or the scandalous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afr.com\/politics\/federal-police-may-have-acted-in-contempt-of-parliament-over-dutton-au-pair-raid-20181126-h18ck9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">au pair affair<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GEQtnHBi9ZI\" width=\"809\" height=\"485\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">Now the AFP has decided not to investigate the Angus Taylor fraud <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/2020\/feb\/06\/angus-taylor-afp-drops-investigation-into-doctored-documents-scandal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">because<\/a><\/span> it says there was no evidence he <em>\u2018was involved in falsifying information\u2019<\/em> and also,<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #333300;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 18pt;\"><em>&#8230; The low level of harm and the apology made by the&nbsp;<\/em>[Minister]<em>&nbsp;to the Lord Mayor of Sydney, along with the significant level of resources required to investigate were \u2026 factored into the decision not to pursue this matter.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: Merienda One; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>THE REAL COST<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">Low harm and cost were never factored in when the AFP ruined the life of Peter Slipper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Merienda; font-size: 14pt;\">In the end, the AFP is a part of the Dutton Ministry. Dutton himself is a former Queensland cop. The only solution is a Federal ICAC.
